Why do I need 4K?
Whilst your final output might
be as low a resolution as Standard Definition (SD) there are
many good reasons for shooting at 4K.
The Red One Digital Cinema Camera does not apply any sharpening
in camera. Most other digital cameras will apply sharpening
that cannot be removed. By shooting such a large image and
downconverting to HD or SD the footage takes on a very natural
sharpening that is far more pleasent, less videolike and more
filmic than other digital cameras.
You can reframe your footage, zoom in on shots and track within
the 4K frame. Steadying shaky footage without having
to zoom in and soften your footage is another advantage.
Scratch allows us here at Sonic to track using the 4K footage
before down conversion.
