Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

Sonic Films was the first company in the UK to rent out the Red One Digital Cinema Camera in December 2007 and is set to be the first to offer the upcoming Epic cameras. Since then we've gone on to shoot with some of the biggest names in the business and offered workable and effective insight and solutions from the get go.

Back in 2005 Sonic Films had the foresight to understand that a then unheard of company called Red Digital Cinema was set to change our industry with the introduction of affordable 35mm digital cinema acquisition. Before the Red camera the main options were expensive 35mm film or 2/3rd chip digital equivalents.

Sonic Films has now supplied the Red camera to over one hundred and fifty shoots along with skilled digital imaging technicians (DIT) that know the ins and outs of the camera as well as provide the link between shooting and post.

The DIT role is similar to a 2nd assitant/clapper loader but with obvious differences. By managing the data or footage from the camera through to making a secure and checked backup the DIT fulfills a similar role to that of a loader on a 35mm job. The DIT also offers solutions to get the most from the camera assisting the Director of Photography or 1st assitant/Focus puller. Setting up the camera at the beginning of the day and checking everything is in order pre-shoot from settings to collomation of the mount. The DIT also offers the option to view footage on set in its 4K RAW format, almost identical to how it is received when it comes to grading the material in post. A rough grade can be made there and then to illustrate the potential of any shot or to check the DoP is getting exactly what he or she wants. Liasing with Post production is the final role of the DIT.
