Red Digital
Cinema recently announced they would be introducing an upgrade
programme beginning 2nd quarter 2010. That upgrade programme
included the introduction of their latest Sensor chip as well as
improved firmware for the cameras and software for post production.
As one of the earliest adopters of Red cameras in the UK Sonic is pleased to
now be able to offer MX sensor Red One's to the UK rental market.
The new sensor delivers greater dynamic range, colour and shutter characteristics.
Red has rated the camera at 13.5 stops using the Arri DRTC dynamic range test.
The same test that has rated Arri's upcoming digital cinema camera, the
Alexa, with a similar dynamic range.
What does this mean for the end user? The improved sensor is capable
of shooting in low light coniditions.
The options to the user for how to shoot, when to shoot and how much
lighting we need to use are now greatly enhanced without compromise.
In general the improvements in the image will compete with all high end
digital cameras on the market and better many. So if you are still undecided
